Last New Year, 2.6 million people in the UK decided to change their diet and exercise habits in a bid to shape up. However, within two weeks, 92 percent had already ditched their resolution in favour of returning to their old ways.

If health and fitness tops your New Year's resolution list in 2016, why not set yourself the ultimate goal of completing Plymouth’s Half Marathon? Once you have that date cemented in your diary, the motivation of having something to work towards will ensure that this year you don’t become just another statistic!

Plymouth’s Half Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 17th April, and is open to runners of all abilities; those hungry for a PB, to raise money for charity, and those who just want to complete that New Year challenge and cross the finish line.

Whatever your reason for taking part, you can rest assured that this is one challenge you won’t be doing alone! As one of thousands of runners, the organising team ensures that each and every participant has access to dedicated half marathon training plans, as well as all the information you could need to prepare you for race day, making it all the more enjoyable.

Jamie Warren, from organisers, GO2, said: “Completing a half marathon is on many people's lists of things they want to achieve, and the New Year provides the perfect opportunity to makes these goals a reality.

“Whether you run fast or slow, crossing the finish line with the support of your city and thousands of other participants will give you a sense of achievement like no other. Who knows, 2016 might be the year you catch the running bug!”

Now heading into its 23rd year, Plymouth’s Half Marathon is known for its scenic route and friendly atmosphere. The 13.1 mile journey will start and finish at The Hoe, with a varied course that boasts coastal views, the Barbican harbour and even the stunning National Trust grounds of Saltram Park. Year after year, thousands of spectators come out to show their fantastic support for all the runners in Plymouth, so you can expect to hear big cheers as you cross the finish line!
