Club news: Now that the New Year is with us, the Maverick Runners will be offering targeted marathon coaching, including a weekly marathon training session
Maverick Runner’s coach and experienced marathon runner, Noel Fowler, will be offering coaching to anyone who is working towards a marathon in the spring/early summer, such as the London Marathon. In his running prime, Noel completed the 1989 London Marathon in a fantastic finishing time of 2 hours 34 minutes 08 seconds. He has a wealth of marathon and endurance running experience and the club is very fortunate to be able to benefit from it in this way.
The purpose of this coaching is to support runners who are hoping to improve their current PB or are attempting the distance for the first time and have a particular target time in mind. The coaching will be based on his personal experience and will include weekly speed endurance work every Tuesday evening starting in this month.
The Tuesday evening training sessions will be designed to build up to a spring marathon, with each session starting with a 1 mile time trial, so that runners can compare their improvement, week by week. Afterwards, Noel will be on hand, with other experienced runners, at the Newton Abbot RFC club house, to offer advice and discuss any running issues in an informal and social setting.
Although these training sessions are tailored for those building for a marathon, they will also be suitable for those wishing to improve their general endurance running. Runners can take part in any one of the Tuesday evening sessions as a stand alone session too.
These evening training sessions will start on Tuesday 12th January, with runners meeting at Newton Abbot Rugby Club at 7pm each week. Anyone is welcome to just turn up, or get in touch via the Maverick Runners’ Facebook page, for more information
