Organisers of a major new charity road race to be held in Nottingham in May have revealed full details of the route.
And Run For All has also announced its charity partners who will be handed a cash boost by the Asda Foundation Nottingham 10K, which will bring thousands of runners to the city on Sunday May 15th and is expected to raise tens of thousands of pounds.
Runners can take part just for fun or they can raise money for one of the partner charities or another good cause of their own choice. The partner charities are Macmillan Cancer Support, Nottingham Hospitals Charity, Treetops Hospice, Jane Tomlinson Appeal, My Sight, Equation, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and housing charity Framework.
The all-new city centre course starts in Nottingham’s historic Old Market Square and takes the field past the castle, through the Park Estate, along the beautiful Victoria Embankment and the River Trent, along the canal, past the law courts and the Broadmarsh centre, through the Lace Market, up Fletcher Gate and on to Pelham Street and back to the grand finish in Old Market Square.
The event is the latest addition to the successful 10K series, supported by the Asda Foundation, which includes events in Leeds, York, Lincoln, Hull and Burnley. Organised by Run For All, they form part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of gruelling challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Charlie Tatman, event director, said: “Nottingham is a great addition to the Asda Foundation series and we are delighted to be bringing an event to a city with such a great running heritage. The route chosen showcases Nottingham at its best and we are sure all those taking part will find it a great run.
“Fundraising is a key part of the series and the efforts of all those involved will support the vital work of some excellent charities.”
Supporters of the new event include the Asda Foundation, Nottingham City Council, Gem 106, Runner’s World, Aftershokz and BananaKick.
Asda Foundation Manager Julie Ward said: “Having supported the Run For All 10K Series for some years, we’re really excited to be able to help bring a major new event to Nottingham. I hope everyone will embrace this new event, get out there and enjoy it – and help to raise funds for some great charities.”
Councillor Cat Arnold, Executive Assistant for Culture at Nottingham City Council, said: “We are delighted that Run For All is bringing this race to England’s Home of Sport. We are always keen to welcome new sporting events to our city and in this instance, can also help showcase some great charity work.
“I would urge runners to take up the challenge. I am intending to register myself. What a wonderful way to keep fit, help people and to see Nottingham at its best while running this splendid route.”

Runners can take part in aid of any area of Nottingham’s hospitals, so it’s a great opportunity to raise money for a local good cause while also getting fit and enjoying some local landmarks along the way. Mary Rose, Treetops Hospice community fundraiser, said: “Treetops Hospice Care is happy to be one of the charity partners of the Asda Foundation Nottingham 10k Run. This is a new challenge event for Nottingham and Treetops is very excited to be part of it. We hope it will raise funds and awareness of the services we provide to many people living with a life limiting illness in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.”
Emily Ford, Macmillan’s regional challenge events programme manager, said: “Macmillan is delighted to be a partner charity at the new Nottingham 10K in 2016. Josh Kaye, Equation fundraiser, said: “Equation works to prevent and reduce the devastating harm caused by domestic violence and abuse. We believe that everyone deserves equal, trusting relationships.
“This year, we will reach around 7,000 children and young people with healthy relationship projects in their schools. Our creative, confidence-boosting activities will help empower these young people to build healthy relationships for themselves. We will train community professionals like social workers to best support survivors of abuse. We will campaign and raise awareness to help keep survivors safe.”

A spokesperson for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Run For All has chosen the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance as one of the charity partners for the Nottingham 10K! We are hoping to get a really big team taking part in the event and to see lots of green T-shirts amongst the runners on the day! As a local charity we rely completely upon the support of local people and events such as the 10K.”
