Aaron Scott made it three Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon victories in a row and newcomer Hayley Mumm won the women’s race as over 5300 people completed the new one-lap course around the world-famous city.
Scott, who won in 2014 and 2015, made it a hat trick with his time of 1hour 06:47. He finished more than three minutes ahead of Michael Eccles and commented: “It felt quite hard as it was undulating and windy. I loved the new course though, and it had brilliant support in Grantchester.”
Mumm added: “The crowds in Cambridge were amazing. It’s my first time in Cambridge and there was so much to look at on the way around. The course felt really fast.”
This year’s event saw a new one-lap course and a bigger entry than in previous years. With £500,000 already having been raised for official partner, Cancer Research UK, since 2012, this year’s event will provide another vital boost to the charity.
Scott was the quickest on the day, whilst the final finisher completed the course in 3hours 48:08. In addition to Cancer Research, runners raised money for various local charities and were supported by eight local businesses from Cambridge.
