Sheffield 10k

Runners are under starters orders with news that a major new road race is coming to Sheffield this autumn.
The new Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K event is to be organised by Run For All, the not-for-profit company behind the popular annual Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield.
Thousands of runners are expected to sign up for this exciting new run on Sunday 30th October that is set to further enhance Sheffield’s reputation as the UK’s city of sport.
Entries are now open online at http://www.runforall.com/10k/sheffield/
Details of the route will be announced soon, but runners can expect an electric city centre start and finish. The official partner charities of the event will also be revealed shortly.
Staged in partnership with Sheffield City Council, the Sheffield 10K is the latest addition to the hugely successful Asda Foundation 10K series, which includes runs in Leeds, York, Lincoln, Burnley, Nottingham, Bury and Hull.
The series is organised by Run For All, part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of endurance challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Welcoming the new event, Asda Foundation Senior Manager Julie Ward, said: “The 10K Series continues to go from strength to strength. Sheffield is a city of great sporting tradition and the run on October 30th will be a fitting finale to the 2016 series.”
Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “We’re thrilled to announce that Run For All, the expert team behind the revamped and hugely successful Yorkshire Half Marathon-
Sheffield, will now also be rebooting Sheffield’s major 10k road race.
“We went out to seek a new provider for the long-standing event, which has traditionally followed a route from the city centre to Hillsborough, because we wanted to take the race to a new level. With Run For All on board, we can make great links between the 10K and half marathon.
“The new-look race will have an all-new route, as well as a free family fun run, additional activities and training sessions.
“Following the huge success of the Yorkshire Half Marathon: Sheffield, as well as the popularity of Sheffield’s Parkruns and the launch of our new The Outdoor City run routes, we expect this to be a very popular event, attracting our regular 10K runners, new runners inspired by the half marathon and many from outside the city who are completing the full Jane Tomlinson Run For All series.
“Sheffielders always come out in great support of these events to make the day extra special for our runners and, with a start and finish line in our vibrant city centre, we can guarantee it will be a great day for all.”
Charlie Tatman, Run For All Event Manager, said: “We look forward to working in partnership with Sheffield City Council to put on another event in this great city.
“Since its launch last year, the Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield has been warmly embraced by the city and we are confident the new Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K will prove just as popular with runners and spectators alike.”
