At 6pm on Friday 8th July the 7th Ehunmilak race kicked off. 'Ehunmilak' means 'one hundred miles' in the Basque language and, having run some of the course today, I can assure you they won't be easy ones!

Every man and his dog was out in Beasain for the start of the race. The region are rightfully very proud of this race. 1500 local people volunteer, many local businesses get involved and it is beautifully Basque in every way. From the traditional music and songs at the start, to the organisation and the incredible hospitality, it's a unique race which really shows off everything that's great about the Basque Country.

The winners are due to arrive on Saturday afternoon and we'll be reporting back. But mark this race on your calendar for next year if you want a unique, but very tough experience. There's an 88km race called G2H and a marathon too, if 'Ehunmilak' sounds like a bit much!
