Sunday (24th July) saw over 1,000 runners from as far away as New Zealand and Hong Kong brave the challenging conditions to take part in the award winning SCOTT Snowdonia Trail Marathon!

The sold out Snowdonia Trail Marathon, organised by North Wales sports event specialists Always Aim High Events, was recognised as one of the ‘best new events in the country’ at the National Running Awards earlier in the year.
With runners competing in Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km distances the trail marathon will be remembered for the incredibly high standard of racing across all of these distances.
The feedback immediately after the race was incredibly positive. Comments such as this from Clotilde on Facebook were commonplace across social media:
“Great event, perfect organisation! Marshals were awesome, and splendid scenery, thank you!!”

Callum Rowlinson and Chris Shelton
In the men’s full distance race, Sam Humphrey captured first place ahead of Callum Rowlinson with a time of 03:57:56, by over 7 minutes. Callum, from the Sale Harriers running club led up to the ascent of Snowdon, finished with a time of 04:05:04. Rob Corney rounded off the top 3.
The full distance female race was a much closer affair with Andrea Rowlands finishing just under 2 minutes ahead of second place Katie Beecher with a time of 04:21:41.. There was a considerable gap of nearly 30 minutes to third place Claire Walton.
Chris Shelton clinched first place in the men’s half marathon distance with a time of 01:54:20 ahead of second place Dyfed Whiteside Thomas, with Martin Cliffe rounding a hotly contested top 3.
First place in the women’s half marathon distance was Zoe Mclennan with a time of 02:21:14. Lisa Grantham of Pensby Runners crossed the line in second place, with Rachel Thomas in third.
The winners of the 10km races were Andrew Tuckey and Hannah Jones with times of 00:45:43 and 00:59:21 respectively. This distance was new for 2016, and went down well with runners who wanted to sample the trail marathon experience.

A spokesperson from Always Aim High Events said:
“We are absolutely delighted to see the SCOTT Snowdonia Trail Marathon go from strength to strength following it’s debut year in 2015.”
“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the 2017 event, which is already generating a huge amount of interest.”
“Thank you to everyone who took time out of the schedules to come and help marshall the marathon, and to everyone who came along to cheer on the runners at the event village in Llanberis, the atmosphere there was fantastic. And thanks of course, to all the runners who took part in the three distances.”
“We would also like to thank our partners; SCOTT Sports, Pedal Cover, High5 Sports Nutrition, Gwynedd Council, Jones o Gymru, Kon-x and Roadside for their continued support which has contributed hugely to the success of the trail marathon.”
