The countdown is on for thousands of big-hearted runners who are getting ready to take on the much-anticipated new Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K.

The event, which takes place on Sunday 30th October, is set to generate a major boost for local charities – who were at Sheffield Town Hall today [Tuesday 6th September] to celebrate the new event.

Entries for the event are open now at http://www.runforall.com/10k/sheffield/

The new run starts in Arundel Gate, in the heart of the city, and takes runners on a journey along Charter Row and Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of pretty Endcliffe Park.

It continues along Riverdale Road, along Endcliffe Vale Road, close to the Botanical Gardens, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to what is set to be a thrilling city centre finish.

And the whole family can get involved with the all-new Arena Group Sheffield Family Fun Run which takes place straight after the 10K. The event is free for those aged 14 and under with a small charge for others. For more details go to http://www.runforall.com/fun-runs/sheffield-family-fun-run/

Staged in partnership with Sheffield City Council, the Sheffield 10K is the latest addition to the hugely successful Asda Foundation 10K series, which includes runs in Leeds, York, Lincoln, Burnley, Nottingham, Bury and Hull.

The series is organised by Run For All, part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of endurance challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Asda Foundation Senior Manager Julie Ward said: “The 10K Series continues to go from strength to strength and we’re very proud supporters. Sheffield is a city of great sporting tradition and the new run on October 30th will be a fantastic finale to the 2016 series.”

Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “I look forward to welcoming thousands of runners and spectators alike to the streets of Sheffield: The Outdoor City on 30th October for our all-new 10K road race. “I am confident that runners will be assured of a great Sheffield welcome as they make their way through the city centre and along busy Ecclesall Road. Crowds turned out in force in April for the Yorkshire Half Marathon - Sheffield and I am sure they will do the same again to cheer the runners along and give them a boost.

“Whether a seasoned runner or a newbie fitness enthusiast, I am sure everyone will enjoy this scenic and challenging road race, and would encourage as many people as possible to take the plunge, sign up and be part of this brand new, exciting event.”

Run For All Events Manager Charlie Tatman said: “We’re thrilled to be back in Sheffield for a new 10K run, hot on the heels of the successful Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield. If the reception from Sheffield for the half marathon is anything to go by, our runners are in for another brilliant welcome!”

Adrian Fitzpatrick, Managing Director of Arena Group, said: “We’re thrilled to support this fantastic new Family Fun Run for Sheffield and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of youngsters and their families turn out to take part.”

People can run the Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K for fun, for a challenge or for charity. They can support a cause that’s close to their hearts but as especially encouraged to fundraise for one of the event’s official partner charities which are: youth housing charity Roundabout, Macmillan Cancer Support, Sheffield Hospitals Charity, St Luke’s Hospice, Cavendish Cancer Care, The Children’s Hospital Charity and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

The official partner charity of the Arena Group Family Fun Run is the Sick Children’s Trust which supports the parents and family of children being cared for at the city’s hospitals.

Fran Lightfoot, St Luke’s Hospice Deputy Head of Fundraising, said: “We are delighted that Run For All and the Asda Foundation have chosen us as an official partner in this prestigious and exciting new sporting event for Sheffield. “Now we aim to see the city’s streets flooded with a wave of St Luke’s pink as the race gets under way and we know that so many people will want to run for us and make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”

Jonny Cole, from the Fundraising Team at Cavendish Cancer Care, said: “Cavendish Cancer Care is thrilled to be associated the Run for All Sheffield 10K. “We are an independent local charity and we rely on the generosity of the local community; the Asda Foundation 10K is a great way for local people to make a massive difference to the lives of cancer patients and their families. Join #TeamCav and run with us.”

Jane Tomlinson Appeal Events Manager Holli Kellett said: “We’re really looking forward to the new addition to the successful 10K series; it’s a great new challenge for our fundraisers and look forward to seeing lots of them hit the streets this October!”

Macmillan Cancer Support are delighted to be an official partner for the re-launched Sheffield 10K.  Rob Turner, Fundraising Manager said: “Sheffield is a fantastic city and the people always bring a warm atmosphere to events.  We’re excited to be involved in the Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K and look forward to welcoming runners to the green team.  In 2015 Macmillan committed to invest over £1.9m in South Yorkshire on services to support thousands of cancer patients and their families.  Each day a staggering 21 people in the county hear the devastating news they have cancer, so now more than ever, we need people to join Team Macmillan.  On Sunday 30 October, wear our green running top with pride.”

Ruth Gage, Roundabout’s Fundraising and Communications Manager said: As soon as we heard about this new run, we were eager to get involved. The partnership with Run For All Events has already raised over £5,000 thanks to some of our supporters who have taken part in the events and collected a generous amount in sponsorship. We encourage lots of people to take part in this new run and expect it will be very popular. The atmosphere is always incredible and they cater for runners of all abilities. We can’t wait to see our supporters #RunforRoundabout.

Amy Melody, from the Sick Children’s Trust, said: “The Sick Children’s Trust believes every family with a seriously ill child in hospital should be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bedside during their treatment.
“The charity believes keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children. It provides free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK.”

‘Caitlin Hallatt, Community Fundraising Assistant at The Children’s Hospital Charity says, “We are delighted to be a partner charity for the Sheffield 10K this year! The new route looks fantastic and we can’t wait to see all our Team Theo supporters running for The Children’s Hospital Charity! By supporting the charity our runners will help to build better physiotherapy facilities at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Thanks to Run for All for organising such a brilliant event and bringing our runners together in Sheffield.”

Denise Lawrenson, Community Facilitator, Snowdrop Project comments: "Snowdrop Project is honored to be chosen as one of the partner charities for the exciting new Run For All Sheffield 10k. Snowdrop is a new Sheffield charity - the first of its kind in the UK - which provides long-term community support for survivors of human trafficking. This event is a great opportunity to raise local awareness and vital funds. We know that, through the generosity of Sheffield people, survivors will be helped to move on from their past, live independently in the community and have a brighter future"

David Reynolds, Director of Sheffield Hospitals Charity said: “We are delighted to be involved with this new running event and hope that local people will get involved and support us. Any funds raised will make a real difference to the care patients being treated by the NHS in Sheffield receive and will help to make them feel even better.”
