Change to route for 2017 Robin Hood Half

by Press Release
Friday 21st October 2016
Organisers of the Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon have taken on runners’ feedback and have announced a change to the 2017 half marathon course, taking place on Sunday 24th September. This year’s picturesque half marathon route included many of Nottingham’s famous landmarks than ever before and with the new route, runners will once again be inspired by the iconic attractions and scenery.
The feedback from this year’s route was overwhelmingly positive, but runners commented that the switch back on Abbey Street could be replaced. Acting on this feedback, the organisers have designed a new route to replace this element, which will see runners using parts of Lenton Boulevard and Church Street for the first time, whilst still retaining some of Nottingham’s favourite landmarks, including Nottingham Castle, The Park, Wollaton Park and Nottingham University’s Jubilee Campus.

Judith Manson, Race Director, comments: “We’ve really listened to our runners and we understand that they don’t like the switch backs on the half marathon route, so we’ve taken this out. This small change will make a big difference and of course we’ve worked hard to ensure this route still captures the iconic sights of Nottingham, and builds on this year’s extremely popular course. The route still includes the much-loved Victoria Embankment start and the Race Village finish so the atmosphere will be fantastic.”

Now in its 37th year, the event is predicted to welcome up to 10,000 runners to the half marathon and up to 2,000 runners to line up for the full marathon. The 1.5-mile mini marathon also provides the perfect option to run together with children and family. Details of the 2017 marathon route will be announced soon.
Early bird entries for the 2017 Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon, Marathon and Mini Marathon are open until the end of October. To secure your place or find out more information about the event, visit: www.robinhoodhalfmarathon.co.uk
