Victory for Plusnet in Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay

by Press Release
Tuesday 1st November 2016

Award-winning broadband, TV and phone provider Plusnet now has a new trophy to add to its cabinet.

The company, which has offices in Leeds and Sheffield, raced to victory in the Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay.

The event, a popular feature of the Yorkshire Marathon, splits the 26.2 miles into six legs, making it accessible to runners of all abilities and is open to companies, sports clubs, groups of friends and other organisations.

As well as a great networking opportunity, the relay is one of the biggest corporate running events in the North and brings an added dimension to marathon day.

Plusnet’s six-strong team recorded a total time of 2:53:30 to triumph in the open category, ahead of law firm Eversheds who clocked 3:00:19 to finish second with Gastronauts – a team from Northern Gas Networks – taking third spot in a time of 3:03:07.

In the mixed category the honours went to Running on Gas, of Leeds, with a time of 3:22:09. Five minutes behind was UHY Calvert Smith, of York, in second and Best Western Warriors, also of York, finished third in 3:35:07.
OSCARS Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity, winners of last year’s female category, clocked 4:31:10 to retain their crown.

Andy Baker, CEO  of Plusnet said: “It’s always great to see our employees taking part in the corporate relay and I’m over the moon that their training has paid off. I’m sure they’ll be back again next year to defend their title.”

Siobhan Curtis, Sponsor and Corporate Manager of the Yorkshire Marathon Series, said: “Once again there was a great response to the relay, which has firmly established itself as a key feature of the marathon.

“Along with enjoying the friendly rivalry, the teams also raised a great deal of money for some excellent causes and everyone who took part deserves congratulations. A big thank you to all the teams who supported the relay.”
The Yorkshire Marathon Series is part of the legacy of the inspirational Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by taking on a series of tough physical challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Next year’s Yorkshire Marathon will be on Sunday October 8th and individual and team entries are open now. Go to www.theyorkshiremarathon.com for details.
