If you want to enter the ballot for the UTMB, TDS, CCC, OCC or PTL in 2017, here’s all the info you need.

Registration procedures

The pre-registration period is open from December 15th 2016 to January 4th 2017.
This pre-registration has to validated by paying, by credit card, a deposit of 50 Euros (secure on-line payment).

Qualifying races

Registration for each race requires runners to have previously finished some of the races listed as UTMB® qualifying races list between January 1st 2015 and December 31st 2016 : Regulations for the qualifying races for the 2017 UTMB®:

UTMB® : 15 points (9 old points) acquired between  01/01/2015 and 31/12/2016 (in a maximum of 3 races)
CCC® : 7 points (3 old points) acquired between  01/01/2015 and 31/12/2016 (in a maximum of 2 races)
TDS® : 7 points (3 old points) acquired between  01/01/2015 and 31/12/2016 (in a maximum of 2 races)
OCC : 3 points (1 old point) acquired between  01/01/2015 and 31/12/2016 (in a maximum of 2 races)
Finishers of the 2014 UTMB®, may also use these races as qualifying races. As from 2018, only the new points will be taken in to account. Your qualifying races must be on the approved UTMB list here.

Priority registration

Runners who have been refused twice due to missing out in the ballots in 2015 and 2016 for the same race, and who did not transfer their registration to the TDS ®, benefit from priority registration for the same race.

Runners unlucky in the 2016 draw benefit from an individual coefficient of 2. This advantage doubles their chance of being successful in the draw for 2017 (on the condition that they select the same race as in 2016 and that they have the necessary points for 2017).

Registration as a group/ couple

It is possible to pre-register in a group (minimum 2 persons, maximum 12 persons per group). The only benefit in a group registration is to have the same outcome from the draw for all the group members, whether positive or negative.

PTL® Special

Registration is open to teams of of 2 or 3 people. Registration is made by presenting a file containing details of the previous experience of each group member. Technical experience in mountain environments, sporting history and the individual and team motivation is evaluated.

The draw

Numbers  pre-registered for races, as  has regularly been the case, are higher than the maximum number of runners possible, so a draw is  held. The results will be posted on January 12th 2017 at 10:00 a.m. (Paris time) in the list of those registered and on the runner's page at  www.utmbmontblanc.com, and will be confirmed by email.

Positive draw result

The runners with a positive draw result will have a period of 14 days, January 12th - January 25th  2017, to finalise definitively their registration by paying, via credit-card, the balance of the registration fee and supplying all the necessary supporting documents. Those people who have not finalised their registration by January 25th 2017 at the latest will lose out.

Negative draw result

- Runners participating in the draw for the first time
Those with a negative draw result will have the 50 euro deposit paid at pre-registration reimbursed
The following year they will benefit from a coefficient of 2 doubling their chance of success, on condition that they chose the same race and that they have the points required for 2018.
- Runners with a coefficient of 2  (= negative results in the 2016 draw)
In the case of a second failure in 2017, they will have priority registration for 2018 (without passing via the draw) for the same race as in 2017 and 2016, on the condition that they have the points necessary for 2018.
The attribution of these advantages (coefficient of 2 or priority) is made after the qualification races declared by the runner have been validated.

160 race-bibs reserved for solidarity, health or the environment

Runners can get a place in a race without going into the draw (while respecting the current regulations). To do this they must make a donation of 2000€ directly to one of the associations supported by the organisation which works for solidarity, health or the environment. The runner can be supported by the business/es of their choice in order to raise the sum.

150 Solidarity race-bibs: the total raised through the 150 solidarity race-bibs during the 2016 event, were distributed and helped the associations fund their charitable projects with the global sum of  300 000 €
5 Health race-bibs: for many years, the health of runners has been a an important priority for the organisation. The 5 health race-bibs support the foundation Ultra Sport Science which finances medical and scientific research within the domain of Ultra-Endurance.
5 Environmental race-bibs: to protect the environmental heritage which gives the UTMB such a formidable play-ground, and for the Trailers du Mont-Blanc association's environment commission so that they can carry out concrete actions, 5 environmental race-bibs have been made available as of this year.
