Vitality North London Half

by Editor
Monday 16th January 2017

To celebrate the return of the Vitality North London Half Marathon in 2017, Run247 were invited along to Wembley stadium, the start and finish of next year's race for a pitch side workout with race ambassador Adrienne Herbert.
The Vitality North London Half takes place on the 12th March 2017 and it will be the third edition of the race and the second time it has started and finished in Wembley stadium.

Upon arrival we taken through security to the main Wembley changing rooms to find our individual station set up with an event t-shirt and a goodie bag with various sponsors' goodies waiting for us. We were actually in the guest changing rooms and while getting changed you couldn’t help but think of who else you had shared this spot with and what it must feel like to be getting changed on match day.  Once dressed it was then our turn to walk through the famous tunnel and out to pitch side. Wembley stadium reopened its doors in 2007 and currently has seating for 90,000 people and with its unique design using the arch, all of those 90,000 people have an unrestricted view of the action. The stands were empty for us so we didn’t get a chance to experience the Wembley Roar but we tried to use our imagination of what that must feel like on match day.  Having an exercise class pitch side was not only a surreal experience but it was also a lot of fun and race ambassador Adrienne soon has us warmed up and doing all sorts of stretches and exercises most runners tend not to (from my sore muscles the following day, Adrienne’s workout has highlighted I need to add a lot more core training into my running training plans).

After a good hour's worth of strength and stretching exercises we headed up to a corporate box to have breakfast and chat about the event. Looking at the venue from the corporate box is as equally impressive as pitch side and it did give you an idea on what a great start and finish location Wembley would make. It is hard not to be impressed with the size of the location. After breakfast we headed out for an official stadium tour which again was really good fun. Wembley has a long and deep history for not only sport but entertainment and one of the highlights for me was walking down a number of flights of stairs with pictures along the way featuring some of the special magic moments that have taken place there. The tour is really well organised and plenty of facts to impress your friends in the pub later (QUICK FACT: Did you know that on match days Wembley has a fully functioning hospital where they can do operations if needed - not only for players but visitors as well?).

All in all a fun morning out and we are looking forward to experience the stadium again on the 12th March as we take on the 13.2 miles around it. If you want to join us places are still available and you can enter here.

If you can’t wait till March to see inside the stadium then you can find details of the Official Stadium Tour here

Also a big thanks to the very talented and lovely Adrienne Herbert who you can follow here.
