Entries closing soon for Vitality Reading Half

by Press Release
Thursday 9th February 2017

The closing date for one of the most prestigious half marathons in the British running calendar is less than a week away. Be sure to avoid disappointment by signing up now to secure your place in the 2017 Vitality Reading Half Marathon.

You will not want to miss out on the UK’s fastest and flattest route, which attracts thousands of runners every year and is renowned for welcoming a large number of newcomers to the running community. This year marks the 34th Vitality Reading Half Marathon and the popular course will lead runners from Green Park, through the beautiful grounds of Reading University and the supportive crowds of the city centre to a momentous finish line moment like no other inside Reading Football Club’s Madejski Stadium.

The event is also delighted to welcome back Olympian Iwan Thomas MBE, who stills hold the British 400m record, to start and race this year’s Vitality Reading Half Marathon. He comments: “I’m extremely excited to be back this year to not only race, but also to start the Vitality Reading Half Marathon. It’s fast, has a great atmosphere and is a fantastic training run for those preparing for the London Marathon. For me personally, it’s also great prep for the Heads Together challenge I’m undertaking this year. Last year, the streets of Reading were filled with cheering supporters motivating the runners all the way round and the noise that erupted from the stands at the Madjeski Stadium finish was something I look forward to re-living! I was really happy with my time last year, but I’m coming back to chase a new personal best.”

Judith Manson, Race Director of the Vitality Reading Half Marathon, comments: “The Vitality Reading Half Marathon is a fantastic community event which year on year sees runners in their thousands, and supporters in their hoards, fill the town. We can’t wait to witness seasoned runners achieve new personal bests and hundreds of newcomers step over the finish line. It promises to be another great year, so I urge you to enter now before it’s too late!”

To celebrate the half marathon’s 34th year, race organisers Sweatshop are giving 34 lucky runners the chance to win a free entry to the 2018 race, should they find a Golden Ticket in their finishers bag.

Entries close at midnight on Tuesday 14 Feb. To guarantee yourself a place in the Reading Half Marathon, visit www.readinghalfmarathon.com.
