Virgin Money London Marathon 2017: the celebs

by Press Release
Monday 6th March 2017

The list of celebs running the Virgin Money London Marathon is out and they range from ex-Olympians, to soap stars, to TV presenters to, err, Katie Hopkins.

At the very speedy end we’ve got James Cracknell, double Olympic gold medallist, with a current pb of 2.50, and Chrissie Wellington, four-time Ironman world champion, with a half marathon pb of 1.24. James is running for Headway and the RNLI and Chrissie for Cancer Research UK and the Epilepsy Society

Paul Tonkinson and fellow comedian Rob Deering are pretty speedy too. Paul and Rob are both running for Parkinson’s UK.

Helen Glover and Heather Staining, Olympic gold medallists in rowing, will be running their first London Marathons for the Brain and Spine Foundation and Royal British Legion Industries.

Danny Mills, ex-footballer who’s been embracing triathlon recently is running for Cancer Research UK.

Adam Woodyatt, better known as Ian Beale in EastEnders, will be starting alongside his son Sam, 19, and it is likely to be a very emotional day for the two of them. The pair decided to run the Virgin Money London Marathon last summer, agreeing to raise money for The Air Ambulance. They never expected that within a few months Sam would be needing an air ambulance after being hit by a car in London and flown to hospital.

Sam was initially put in an induced coma following the accident and then spent time recovering in a wheelchair. But he never lost his drive to take part in the marathon alongside his dad and the duo are more eager than ever to get to the Finish Line and raise as much money as possible.

We know from inside information that Sophie Raworth is running really well at the moment. Can she improve on her current pb of 3.35, set in London?

Other celebs include Chris Evans, Jenni Falconer, Jayne Torvill, Gilles Peterson, Scouting for Girls (all of them) and, err, Katie Hopkins.
