We went along to the launch of this year’s Odlo run club at Snow and Rock in Covent Garden. This is the club’s second year and it runs for 12 weeks, leading up to the Richmond Summer 10k in July.
It’s a joint initiative with the
Running Bug and it’s a fantastic, all abilities club. It’s designed so that runners of every level can push themselves to their limit, and improve to reach their own goal.
I have to admit that I went down to the club expecting it to be a nice social jog out with some lovely runners. And it was. Until the intervals started. Nick Anderson, top coach with Saucony UK and Running With Us, led this first session. The session was 6 x 3 minute intervals - run out for 90 seconds, then turn round and run back, trying to get back to the same start point so that they’re run evenly. As you’d expect from a coach with his experience he was the master of both the carrot (‘who wants to be a better runner tomorrow than they are today?’) and the stick (‘everybody’s very good at the FIRST 90 seconds of a 3 minute interval, but you need to be good at the whole 3 minutes!’).
Each week will be a coached session so it looks like this is going to be a really good initiative for runners. Why don’t you try it out for yourself. All the information is
here.
There’s some great Odlo kit out in time for the summer. Below are the Samara shorts, which are nice and light with a zip key pocket, and the Ceramicool Pro top, which is designed to help reduce your skin temperature when running in the heat. Available from
Odlo’s website.
