First impressions
I loved these shoes when I opened the box. Most of the shoe is a silvery pale grey colour with a salmon pink undersole and a splash of the same colour on the New Balance trademark ‘N’ on the sides of the shoe. Visually I found these shoes very pleasing ☺ They felt understated and stylish. Feminine without being sickly pink or girly.
Fit/size
Having seen them, I wanted to try them on straight away. I range from a 6-7 (39-40) in most shoes and a size 39.5 was a good overall fit for me. Although, if I’d have been in a shop, I might have tried a half size up as I have a wide foot and just a little more room around the widest part of my feet, might have felt better when running.
Comfort
They feel light and cushioned on your feet. Inside the shoes were comfortable, nothing rubbed or hurt. The material feels light and breathable. I think these would be great for someone with a narrower foot wanting a snug fit. I have quite a high arch, and so for me, they felt firm around the upper arch of my foot which on a longer run (10 miles +) started to niggle.
On the run
I preferred using them for shorter, speed interval training sessions where I wanted something lighter and bouncy. Traction was good on the flat and firmer ground. Less so on hills and bumpier terrain. Occasionally it felt like my foot might roll outwards. I think this might be because they have quite a slim, shaped sole compared to others trainers I have. The plus side to this is a lightweight shoe good for speed.
Any criticisms?
I must admit I normally run in shoes with lower heel/toe drop. These have a 6mm drop and I felt the extra cushioning at the heel. If you’re used to this, or are wanting to transition from a higher heel/toe drop down then these could work well.
Would you recommend them?
For looks and shorter runs, I would definitely buy these. They wouldn’t be my first choice trainer for longer runs due to my incompatible wide feet – but could be for those with a more slender, delicate footprint!
