There are many stories about runners who find positive change through the sport. However, it would be difficult to find a story about how running can be so literally life-changing than the film Skid Row Marathon.
Skid Row Marathon tells the story of how a criminal court judge starts a running club in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles, notorious for homelessness and addiction. The film follows the runners over the course of four years as they turn their lives around and they run marathons around the world, fighting the pull of homelessness and addiction. Above all, the director and producer say, it is a film of ‘hope, friendship and dignity’.
Skid Row Marathon won awards at the recent LA Film Festival and now you have the opportunity to see the film if you live in the UK. There will be a special screening, organised by Martin Yelling of Marathon Talk, in London’s West End on Saturday September the 2nd at 3.30pm at the Prince Charles Cinema (7 Leicester Place, London WC2H 7BY, UK). The director and producer (Gabi and Mark Hayes) will be coming to London for this screening and after the film there will be an informal Q&A with them both.
A portion of the proceeds from the tickets will go to support
The Running Charity in the UK which supports young homeless people through running and mentoring.
