There was a dramatic twist in the final stages of Montane Tor des Geants (TDG) when Francis Colle, the leader, was forced to retire. Javi Dominguez went on to take the victory yesterday morning in a new record time of 67 hour and 52 minutes.
Having battled with Javi Dominguez throughout the race Colle had regained the lead during day 3, getting to the Ollomont life station 3 hours ahead of Dominguez. The chasing group saw a number of withdrawals on day 3, including Peter Kienzl, who had been in third place.
Oliviero Bosatelli finished second in 69.16 and Andrea Macchi finished third in 74.51.
Lisa Borzani dominated the women’s race throughout and has finished in 89.40 in 11th place overall. Sylvia Trigueros Garrote is due to finish later this morning and Stephanie Case is currently in third, about 4.5 hours behind Trigueros Garrote.
Montane’s Debbie Martin-Consani is still going strong and is currently in 20th place in the women’s race. Paul Tierney of Ireland is in 30th position in the men’s race and he’s expected to finish early this afternoon.
