Meridian Foods, the UK’s leading producer of nut butters, has announced that it will be the Official Partner of the iconic Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon taking place on Sunday 7 October 2018, confirming they really are nuts about running. The sponsorship deal will ensure the event continues to grow as it heads into its 18th successful year.

The company has been fuelling fitness fanatics with their range of nut and seed butters for the past 30 years. Next year Meridian are proud to be supporting 25,000 race starters as they make their way around the famous 13.1 miles, and continuing their mission to raise awareness of the benefits of nut butters and bars as a natural source of protein and energy for anyone involved in physical activity.

With a factory based in North Wales, Meridian prides itself on using only the most natural ingredients- all products are completely gluten free and contain absolutely no palm oil. A wide range to suit everyone’s tastes, their protein packed products will be available to sample at the Runners Village and will be included the finishers’ goodie bag to help runners refuel after completing the flat, fast, iconic course.

Run 4 Wales Chief Executive Matt Newman, comments: “People up and down the country use training for the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon as a vehicle to improve their overall health, so having a brand such as Meridian on board is fantastic, as they share similar values around the importance of wellbeing.

Nearly 10,000 runners have already signed up for the 2018 event, 7,000 more than this time in 2017. The Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon is on course to sell out (25,000 runners) once again, attracting thousands of runners of all abilities, ages and countries from around the world.

Commenting on Meridian’s first sponsorship of the race, Sue McIntosh,
Head of Marketing at Meridian Foods added: “We’re delighted to be an official partner of Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon as we saw a natural synergy between the race and our brand, especially as our products are manufactured in Wales.

“Our nut butters and nut bars will provide an excellent source of energy and protein post race. We’ll be offering samples of our products at the Race Village and educating runners throughout the day on the importance of fuelling your diet with natural sources of protein to aid active lifestyles and healthy eating.

“Team Meridian, which consists of employees from the factories and offices, are already looking forward to running the Half in 2018, and we hope to raise a further £1000 for our chosen charity, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation. We are excited to be supporting Wales’ largest mass participation event and are looking forward to supporting all the runners involved next year.”

Cardiff Half Marathon and Meridian are encouraging social media followers to shout about just how “nuts about running” they are by using the dedicated #nutsaboutrunning.
