Rough and Tumble race report

by 1
Monday 15th January 2018

Now in its 12th year, the Rough ‘n’ Tumble multi terrain 10 mile run is a must-do race for those who enjoy mud and hills and want an early season test after their Christmas excess.

This year the weather was kind with dry and still conditions for the 600 runners that tackled the challenging course over the hills from Milton Lilbourne near Pewsey and there was an expectation that course records would tumble.

And they did indeed, with Ben Cole running for Swindon Harriers smashing his own course record he set last year by 3 minutes to finish in a time of 1.01.28. Likewise in the ladies race, up and coming Catie O’Donoghue, who runs for Bristol & West, but often trains with the Swindon Shin Splints, stormed around the course in a ladies course record of 1.15.22 in 13th place overall.

The Swindon Shin Splints fielded a strong team this year with Maurice Price, Chris Giles & Chris Morgan clinching the 1st male team prize. Other local winners included Steve Connolly, Swindon Harriers Vet 50 winner ,  Richard Pearce, Pewsey Vale, V70 winner and Morie Dobie, Swindon Shin Splints Vet 65 winner.

Race Organiser Steve Goulding  would  like to thank Milton Lilbourne Village hall committee and residents for once again laying on a spectacular array of cakes and for their help with the car parking and marshalling.
