Wings for Life is back with a new twist this year. As well as taking part in the event you will be able to take part either ’digitally’ or at an Organised App Run on the day, through the Wings for Life World Run App!
Wings for Life World Run 2018 is back in the UK - but with a twist. Since the first Wings for Life World Run was launched back in 2014, between us we’ve covered over 4.2 million kilometres together to make a difference. The money raised for Wings for Life has been able to fund 60 research projects worldwide, all with the same goal: to find a cure for spinal cord injury.
If you have previously taken part in a Wings for Life World Run flagship location in the UK, we thank you for your support and are excited to run with you again in 2018! Each year we aim to drive participation and support of this amazing race and great cause and whilst our Flagship runs remain an important part of the World Run, it is the growing success of our mobile App and local organised App Runs that allow more and more participants from every corner of the globe to participate in this great event.
For the first time, at 12:00 GMT on May 6, the global running event will be activated digitally, through the Wings for Life World Run App, empowering people from across the world to run together.
Organized App Runs provide local communities and supporters the opportunity to host a run, join a run or run alone, all the while fundraising and spreading awareness of spinal cord injury and helping us get one step closer to a cure!
By activating the app, runners can take part in the Wings for Life World Run – App Run at the same time as all Wings for Life World Runners from across the globe. Under the new unique format, participants run as far as they can until they are passed by a moving finish line, the virtual “Catcher Car”, which chases runners along the course, getting faster until each participant has been caught.
To kick it all off, Wings for Life has created a number of organised App Runs which will take place across the world on May 6, with four set to take place in the UK, including Richmond and Cambridge (with more locations to be announced).
Click to register for an App Run in the UK, set up your own Organised App Run or find an Organised App Run near you. Entry is £18 and 100% of entry fees and donations go to important spinal cord research.
So how does the Wings for Life World Run App Run work?
Download the App to your phone, log in (either with an existing account or by creating a new account) and register to take part on Race Day. You can either take part in your hometown and choose the route you run, or can sign up for one of the available Organized App Run events. Whether you set your own App Run course, or join an Organized App Run to participate together with others, you'll see your name on the Global Result List.
