April sees the coming to life of Paris again, as it will host the 2018 edition of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, which takes place on Sunday, April 8th.
The event, which is organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), is considered one of the biggest marathons in the world with 145 nationalities and 55,000 runners competing registered in 2018.
Heading into its 42nd year, the event takes place in the heart of Paris, allowing runners to take in all the beauty of the Champs Elysées, the Bois de Vincennes, Boulogne and iconic landmarks along the route including the Cathedral Notre Dame and Eiffel Tower.

Starting under the famous Arc de Triomphe, this year the event will continue to open doors to participation, as it will also showcase kids races for those aged between five and ten years old on the Saturday.
Although these aren’t quite the 26.2 miles in length, the two races held over courses of 1.2km (5-7 year olds) and 2.2km (8-10 year olds) will be the centrepiece for a day of family fun for all, as the course village will host face-painting, live music and a breakfast fit for a king at the finish.
For an event that is ever growing in popularity, with footprints aplenty around the roads of France, this year will again champion an initiative set to make the race fully carbon neutral by 2019.
Specifically, Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris are working closely with Livelihoods, an organization that provides energy-efficient cookstoves to local communities in Kenya. Made from locally sourced materials, the stoves retain heat longer and use 60% less wood, which translates to lower emissions.
It is hoped the project can offset 1 million tons of CO2 emissions by 2020. This year, it will already make up for 85% of the race’s carbon footprint!
