When I heard about a new adventure weekend taking place in the Faroe Islands I have to admit that my first thought was ‘where are the Faroe Islands?’. And when I looked it up (100km south of Iceland, between the Norwegian Sea and North Atlantic Ocean) and saw some images of the scenery my second thought was ‘it looks incredible!’.
The Útilív Adventure Festival will take place from September 7th to 9th this year and, if you’re a runner, you might be interested to hear that there will be four trail races, a 13km, 21km, 42km and 65km. But, alongside the running there will also be screenings of adventure films, inspiring talks, sea-kayaking, surfing, coasteering, and a post-race after party.
If you like wild and remote, this festival is for you. This jigsaw of 18 volcanic islands provides a stunning backdrop of knife-edge ridges, dramatic waterfalls, secluded lagoons, and ancient trails. In terms of running the trails are technical, with steep ascents and descents, and runners are expected to have trail running experience to enter each distance. In order to preserve the land and wildlife they are also capping the races at 250 runners , so it’s an amazing opportunity to experience this incredible environment without the trails being too busy.
We will be learning a lot more about this event over the coming months, so check back for updates.
This sounds like it will be a very special experience and places are very limited, so book soon if you want a place.
