Reading Half has issued the following press statement:
PRESS STATEMENT: 16 MARCH 2018
Judith Manson, Race Director
The organisers of the Sage Reading Half Marathon can confirm that we are doing everything in our power to go ahead with the race this weekend, Sunday 18 March. We are in direct communications with the Met Office and have been advised that the weather forecast is still very uncertain. For this reason, we are, at present, going ahead with the event and look forward to welcoming all of our runners on Sunday. The easiest thing to do would be to cancel but by doing this, all runners and charities would lose out.
Our focus is on the health and safety of the race participants, spectators and volunteers. We are working very closely with statutory authorities and our partners, holding multi-agency meetings to ensure that every measure is taken to safeguard all involved. Contingency measures on the race village are also being planned to ensure the safety and comfort of all pre and post-race.
If the weather conditions deteriorate and are deemed to be unsafe, runners can be assured the race will not go ahead. However to reiterate, we are doing everything in our power to go ahead. Further information will be released in due course through the official channels.
